This happens all the time. For me this happened with several different series. My solution was to wait until all the books came out. So then I can happily read them without having to wait.

Has this ever happened to you? For what series?

This always happens to me! Most of the time I read other books, and then when the next book is about to come out I reread the entire series.

This actually doesn't happen to me too often. I usually start a series when it's finished or close to being finished or when I know it'll take me a long time to read :P Like the Game of Thrones series will take me forever to read and it isn't finished yet but I'm starting and only on the 3rd book.

A couple notable series that this has happened with that it has been particularly hard to deal with - Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time and Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives.  Robert Jordan started his masterpiece series (the only books he ever published) in the 1970s, and died before they were done.  Brandon Sanderson was actually selected to finish the series for him, and it was only finished a couple of years ago.  The Stormlight Archives are Sanderson's version of the same thing - a double digit series of books in the thousands of pages.  They are incredible, but they are complex, and they only come out every two years or so, which means that you have to reread the whole series every couple of years (not necessarily a bad thing, though).

This happens to me a lot, especially for the Harry Potter series.

I like reading either a one book with no series or a series with a lot books in it. If the series only has a couple, I feel that I always want more.

This doesn't happen to me very often, but when it does, it's the worst!

Haha Hunger Games flashback. For some reason this reminds me of when I read the Lord of the Rings books as well. I don't read as much as most people but when I find a good story I need to finish it.

Hunger Games for the win. It took forever for Mockingjay to come out!

That has happened to me too many times to count. For Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Twilight, and the list goes on.

This is exactly why I don't like reading a book in a series and having to wait a while for the next one to come out. By the time the next book comes out, I would have forgotten everything I read in the previous book!
