Reading for the Soul

I thought this quote was interesting. I absolutely love movies, but it made me question whether books or movies were more effective in absorbing their audience into their world. On one hand, movies benefit from technology that creates mind-blowing special effects, as well as the actors themselves who can bring written words to life in ways reading them silently to ourselves may not. On the other hand, however, when we read, everything is up to us. The universes in our imaginations are sometimes better than anything a green screen could produce, and the characters might be more appealing in our heads than their real-life portrayals. Which medium is more captivating to you?

This is a really cool quote and has quite a bit of truth in it. I've often been there since the books I'm reading has every chapter in the point of view of different characters.

I think that reading is more captivating to me because, when you read you get to create an entire world in you head, while in movies you're simply given the world and you can't change it to fit your imagination.

Ooooo got the chills reading this. I love thinking of the fact we have entered someone else life by reading or watching. I think its an important skill to draw someone in like that. Props to the authors who can!

I like both movies and books and I agree with the points you made on both parts. For me, I always believe that the books are better than movies because although movies offer the physical display of events, books offer so much more detail and often times movies have to take out scenes and details that are in the books. I believe movies make the imaging of whats going on more clear, but I enjoy using my imagination and grasping all the details even though its not as clear as watching a movie.

I think that reading is great for everyone because it helps them create what they believe is the character. While in movies they can change the appearance is the character from your perception. I ultimately like movies more, but that's just because I'm more of a visual person and I react more to things/actions that I can see.

This quote is so true, and I believe that it will continue being true to me for a very, very long time.

I think books and movies can both be captivating. It depends on the type of movie or book. In general, I think books can portray the author's meaning better than the movie. Words are directly from the author and absorbed by readers' imagination while movies give fixed images to the readers.

I was thinking about this quote for some time after reading it and I didn't believe it at first. It was only when I thought about it while reading did I understand its validity.

Totally agree with the quote above. this truly happens every time I pick up a new book or story!

When you watch a movie, you see what the director has imagined. When you read a book, the vision in your head is unique and allows you to be creative.
